Remembrance Day 2013

The focus for this year’s exhibition in the Memorial Hall was the “Home Front” and included a display of cookery books, knitting patterns and ideas on how the housewife could “make do and mend”. Newspaper cuttings told of how the women and schoolgirls of Helpringham banded together to make knitted goods for the men fighting at the front and posters encouraged  young women to join the Land Army and everyone to “Dig for Victory”.
There was also a display of model aircraft and drawings of wartime aircraft by a young Sid Stanley in 1944.
All the men from Helpringham who had lost their lives in the two world wars were remembered on a poppy field display and medals, letters, postcards and other artefacts were displayed.
