Save Money When Purchasing Your Heating Oil Are you interested in saving money on your domestic heating oil? If the answer is YES you might be interested to know about a scheme that is operating across Lincolnshire helping its members to do just that! Community Lincs have run their Community Oil buying Scheme for the last 3 years, saving its members on average around 5p per litre on their heating oil. The scheme is open to anyone in the county who uses heating oil to heat their homes and premises. The scheme works by bringing together oil buyers from around county and purchasing the oil collectively, with around 40,000 litres of oil being ordered each month. The scheme is only £20 per year to join and includes advice on how to keep your tank safe from thieves and the benefit of their Oil Theft Alert System. Community Lincs also work alongside the Lincolnshire Credit Union, or Lincup, who have devised an Oil Savers Scheme to allow members to put aside money each month for their oil purchases. If you are interested to know more about the scheme you can visit the Community Lincs website at http://communitylincs.com/community-oil-buying-scheme/ or by giving them a call on 01529 301980. standrew.helpringham@gmail.com St Andrew's Church, Helpringham. NEWS FROM THE PEWS It is often said that St Andrew's Church, Helpringham is the 'coldest' place in the village, well, not so on Saturday July 4th when the 'Stars, Stripes and Strawberries' concert was staged there. It was a hot, hot, hot colourful summer clad, short sleeved audience that enjoyed the show. Services at St Andrew's Church, Helpringham - August 2015 Sunday August 9th at 6pm - 'Songs of Praise' led by John West
PETTICOAT CLUB NEWS Gill our chairman opened our June Meeting thanking members for their donation of cakes to the Swaton Show, and saying that the refreshment stall raised over a £1000. The Defibrillator Fund has also been accepted as a Community Champion by the Lincolnshire Co-op for the next few months and this will raise even more funds to go towards its upkeep. Members were then treated to a talk by Neil Irvine, a solicitor who practises in Spalding and specialises in probate and family trusts. His talk was entitled “The Seven Deadly Sins” and gave us many anecdotes of cases that illustrated Wrath, Greed, Sloth, Pride, Lust, Envy and Gluttony. Some were amusing whilst others were quite tragic. After questions there was plenty of time for members to enjoy a cuppa and have a good chat and we were pleased to welcome another new member to the club. New members will be very welcome.
July 2015 Meeting. This meeting was on the first day of the month, which often catches a lot of people out, and also the hottest day of the year (so far!) so I was wondering how many people would actually venture out and how hot it would be in the hall. In the event there were only a fewer number of people than normal and the hall was surprisingly cool and comfortable. It turned out to be a good meeting with a nice mix of new and old numbers being played. I took the opportunity to do a bit of village advertising and mentioned the Stars Stripes and Strawberries variety evening at the church, which was to be held on Saturday 4th. This obviously worked as Dave and Pat Jessop actually came from Lincoln to see the show. They have also bought tickets to the Music Night on Saturday 29th August (another shameless plug!!) Don’t forget you don’t have to be a player - you can just come and listen, have a chat, swap a few memories. Entry is just £2 for non players. Entry is £3 for guitar players and you just need to bring your guitar. Everything else is provided, backing tracks, echo machines, PA system. Or, if you have your own backing tracks they, can be accommodated on CD, minidisc, USB stick, mp3 player, smartphone or iPad etc. Meetings are held at the Memorial Hall from 7:30pm to 10:30pm on the first Wednesday of every month. Light refreshments are included. Next meeting is Wednesday 5th August. Dave Moore HELPRINGHAM HISTORY SOCIETY The FEAST WEEKEND this year on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August will see the Society once again mounting a large exhibition in St. Andrew’s Church.
