Save Money When Purchasing Your Heating Oil

Are you interested in saving money on your domestic heating oil?  If the answer is YES you might be interested to know about a scheme that is operating across Lincolnshire helping its members to do just that!

Community Lincs have run their Community Oil buying Scheme for the last 3 years, saving its members on average around 5p per litre on their heating oil.  The scheme is open to anyone in the county who uses heating oil to heat their homes and premises. The scheme works by bringing together oil buyers from around county and purchasing the oil collectively, with around 40,000 litres of oil being ordered each month.

The scheme is only £20 per year to join and includes advice on how to keep your tank safe from thieves and the benefit of their Oil Theft Alert System. Community Lincs also work alongside the Lincolnshire Credit Union, or Lincup, who have devised an Oil Savers Scheme to allow members to put aside money each month for their oil purchases.

If you are interested to know more about the scheme you can visit the Community Lincs website at http://communitylincs.com/community-oil-buying-scheme/ or by giving them a call on 01529 301980.

St Andrew's Church, Helpringham.

NEWS FROM THE PEWS

It is often said that St Andrew's Church, Helpringham is the 'coldest' place in the village, well, not so on Saturday July 4th when the 'Stars, Stripes and Strawberries' concert was staged there.  It was a hot, hot, hot colourful summer clad, short sleeved audience that enjoyed the show.
With an acknowledgement to Independence Day with the running theme of America throughout the performances it was amazing just how much talent there is in the immediate area and that people are prepared to get on stage and entertain others.
From the skirl of the first note from the fully kilted bagpiper Jim Young to the dying notes from Dave Moore's 'I Only Want To Be With You' we were kept entertained, enchanted and enthralled by the acts at St Andrew's SSS concert.  From Tina and Jo, the two respectably and soberly clad ladies, who performed some very amusing and very droll Victorian duologues about village life, to the Helpringham Group Choir's John Rutter anthems, Anthony Baldery's playing of 'Liberty Bell' and John West's guitar solos we were kept entertained by them all.
With an impromptu dance by John and Irene West down the centre aisle and a member of the PCC seen doing the 'Shadows Walk' when she thought no one was watching...... such goings on in the church.  Who would have thought it!
With a scrumptious 'strawberry' supper provided by the 'Never Knowingly Under Catered' team from the ladies of the church a good time was had by all who attended.
Ending with a surprise announcement that the PCC had secured a performance by the Military Wives Choir, Cranwell for Saturday May 14th 2016 (please put this date in your diaries) everyone left feeling they had a good evening out.
See separate entry in this newsletter for the booking form.

PETTICOAT CLUB NEWS

Gill our chairman opened our June Meeting thanking members for their donation of cakes to the Swaton Show, and saying that the refreshment stall raised over a £1000. The Defibrillator Fund has also been accepted as a Community Champion by the Lincolnshire Co-op for the next few months and this will raise even more funds to go towards its upkeep.
It was also announced that members were being given a questionnaire seeking their opinions and ideas on the future of the club and its activities. The Committee hopes that everyone will complete these so that we can plan for the future.
Marian Stocking gave advance of an exciting event next year in May when the Cranwell Military Wives Choir will be giving a concert in St Andrew’s.

Members were then treated to a talk by Neil Irvine, a solicitor who practises in Spalding and specialises in probate and family trusts. His talk was entitled “The Seven Deadly Sins” and gave us many anecdotes of cases that illustrated Wrath, Greed, Sloth, Pride, Lust, Envy and Gluttony. Some were amusing whilst others were quite tragic. After questions there was plenty of time for members to enjoy a cuppa and have a good chat and we were pleased to welcome another new member to the club.

Our next meeting is WEDNESDAY 12th AUGUST at 7.30pm.
When Mary Clark of B.O.L.D. will be telling us about the work of this organization that works with the disabled to give them adventures in outdoor activities.

New members will be very welcome.

SOUTH LINCS SHADOWS MUSIC CLUB

July 2015 Meeting.

This meeting was on the first day of the month, which often catches a lot of people out, and also the hottest day of the year (so far!) so I was wondering how many people would actually venture out and how hot it would be in the hall.

In the event there were only a fewer number of people than normal and the hall was surprisingly cool and comfortable.

It turned out to be a good meeting with a nice mix of new and old numbers being played.

I took the opportunity to do a bit of village advertising and mentioned the Stars Stripes and Strawberries variety evening at the church, which was to be held on Saturday 4th. This obviously worked as Dave and Pat Jessop actually came from Lincoln to see the show. They have also bought tickets to the Music Night on Saturday 29th August (another shameless plug!!)

Don’t forget you don’t have to be a player - you can just come and listen, have a chat, swap a few memories. Entry is just £2 for non players.

Entry is £3 for guitar players and you just need to bring your guitar. Everything else is provided, backing tracks, echo machines, PA system. Or, if you have your own backing tracks they, can be accommodated on CD, minidisc, USB stick, mp3 player, smartphone or iPad etc.

Meetings are held at the Memorial Hall from 7:30pm to 10:30pm on the first Wednesday of every month.

Light refreshments are included.

Next meeting is Wednesday 5th August.

HELPRINGHAM HISTORY SOCIETY

The FEAST WEEKEND this year on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August will see the Society once again mounting a large exhibition in St. Andrew’s Church. The theme this year is
Helpringham at Work and Play.
Do come along and travel back in time to see how children entertained themselves and what the adults got up to in their non-working time, in days gone by. Helpringham has always seen a variety of tradesmen and crafts as well as many employed on the land and these trades and businesses will also be featured in the exhibition.
It promises to be an interesting and fun display showing how the Society continues to build up a large and unique archive of our village’s history.
So DO COME ALONG Saturday 8th 10am-4.00p.m. And Sunday 9th 11.00.a.m to 3.00. p.m.
