NEWS FROM THE PEWS

We were blessed with good weather for the Feast Weekend on 10th and 11th August and a large number of people came to visit the church to see the Historical Society’s excellent exhibition of ‘School Days’ and to take part in the other activities.  The Friday night concert of Vintage Brass was a great success and about 80 people were entertained and enjoyed a supper.
The weekend raised about £1200 for church funds and a big thank you to everyone who came and especially those who helped with refreshments, running stalls, floral displays and the tower tours.
Tickets are now on sale for the Raymond Burley guitar concert to be held in the church on 21st September.  The ticket price is £10 and includes a light supper with wine and soft drinks being on sale.  Please see posters for further details. Tickets available from Marian & Vince Stocking (421395).
On 14st September we are holding a church clean-up morning starting at 9.30.  We are hoping that as many people as possible can come along to help with a general clean and tidy up of the churchyard around the church.  Refreshments will be available for those who help.  This is also the date of the Lincolnshire Churches Trust Sponsored Ride and Stride 10am - 6pm and all the churches across the group will be open to visitors.
A reminder that the Harvest Festival Service will be held on 4th October at 6pm in the church and the Harvest Supper and auction on 5th October in the Memorial Hall.  Tickets will be required for the latter event.
Pram Service and Coffee morning at St Andrew's Helpringham
A couple of months ago I floated the idea of having a regular midweek Pram service at St Andrew's Church Helpringham. I am pleased to report that this idea has been taken up and starting on 10th September there will be a Pram service for young children every Tuesday morning in term time at 9am at the church after the school drop off. It will consist of a few songs, a Bible story, the Lord's Prayer and a short prayer time and will last about 20 minutes. This will be followed by a coffee morning in church and a chance for villagers to meet and chat together over a cuppa. All are welcome. Hope to see you there.

Harvest Festival
Come and give thanks for all God's many blessings at our Harvest festival service at St Andrew's Church Helpringham on Friday 4th October at 6pm. The Harvest Supper and Auction will be at the Village Hall the following evening, 5th October at 7pm. Tickets for the supper from Marian & Vince Stocking (421395).

First Rector for over 700 years
Due to the pastoral reorganisation in the Lafford Deanery and a change in the title of whoever is in charge of what is now officially the Heckington and Helpringham Group of Parishes, I find myself as the Rector of the whole group. It's not promotion or recognition but simply a quaint anomaly of tutelage with the CofE. Although this is nothing new for Helpringham, it makes me the first Rector of Heckington for over 700 years, since Richard de Potesgrave was instituted in 1309. The Archdeacon of Lincoln is therefore coming to St Andrew's Heckington on Sunday 15th September at 11am formally recognise that we are no longer two groups of parishes but one, and to officially install me as Rector. Everyone is most welcome at this historic occasion. It's all semantics of course but lovely nonetheless, but to you I'll still be Captain Chris.

15th Sept - Holy Communion at 9.30am

PETTICOAT CLUB NEWS

At our August meeting members were given a talk by Caroline Bain, who runs her own business as a foot care professional. With an informative PowerPoint presentation she led us through the problems that can arise with our feet as we get older and the
solutions to them. This was very interesting and we all learnt to take care of our feet.

Our next meeting is on September 11th with a talk from Laraine Wright. Find out why Mary Tudor is the only British Monarch still to be known by a derogatory name even after 400 years and what
made her the woman she was.

Do come along and join us. There is always a warm welcome for new members and guests.

HELPRINGHAM AND DISTRICT GARDEN CLUB

August Meeting Wednesday August 28th
Alan Bycroft 's talk on Foraging held everyone's interest showing how many "wild" items can be put to good use in the food and drink larder.
September's Meeting is the Annual General Meeting and also the 10th  Anniversary of the Club in its present form. So after the usual reports from the Committee and election of Officers, we shall have a bit of a celebration. i.e. a drink and a piece of cake, and a chance to socialise with each other.
DID YOU KNOW THAT the GARDEN CLUB has more paid up members than any other village club?
Come along and join us!
Regular Meetings are held in the Memorial Hall at 7.30.pm. Tea and Coffee is provided.
Visitors always welcome

HELPRINGHAM HISTORY SOCIETY

The Society would like to thank all those who helped with the exhibition of School Days in the church at the Feast this year, we were very grateful for all the photos etc. that were lent to us and it proved to be very popular with many visitors from inside and
outside of the village.
Our next exhibition will be in The Memorial Hall on
Remembrance Sunday 10th November, where we will be remembering our War heroes and celebrating the life of women and all who served at home during wartime. We would be grateful if any of you have memories or artefacts that you would like to share with us to add to our already sizable collection of wartime in Helpringham. We would love to hear from you. Contact Laraine on 421110 or Julie on 421265 or any other Society members

please telephone Laraine on 421110 or Julie on 421265. We look forward to hearing from you.
