Helpringham Playing Field Committee
would like to thank everyone who attended this year’s race night.
We all had a great night and we are pleased to say the interim figure raised so far is a fantastic £1241.00.

Your continued support is appreciated and we would like to Say Thank you.
A very big thank you must also go to those people that are not on the committee but every year they give up their time to help us.
So we would like to thank:
Carol Pell for the lovely food you put on for us.
Gary Nettleton for the time you sit in the back counting the winnings and sorting all the races.
Mr Tilley for your fun auction
Also
Julie Robinson, Ed Robinson, and Courtney Whittle who sort all the race tickets sales.

Look forward to seeing you all next year

JAMIE GORDON'S FUND-RAISING FOR ECUADOR EXPEDITION

I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive "THANK-YOU" to all of those who have supported me so far with my fund raising efforts for my forthcoming expedition to Ecuador. I have been overwhelmed with the support and generosity from the Village, supplying me with work and buying raffle tickets, in particular Will & Debra at the Village Shop who have done everything possible to advertise and fund my event, and certain villagers who have been amazing through work offers and donations. By the time this article will be printed, my event at Heckington Squash Club will have taken place so I hope one of you won on the raffle and thank-you to all those who attended, I will keep you posted of the evening's success in next month's edition. For those of you who aren't aware, next July I travel to Ecuador to begin a month travelling through the Amazon with local tribes to aid project work namely as a cause of oil pollution but also to work on local community projects. It will be an unbelievable life experience and I feel honoured to have been selected to accompany a small group to Ecuador. I have been so busy raising money through various events;- car boots, gardening, car washing, painting, live band and disco night, but am now busy revising for my GCSEs which take place in June but come the summer holidays I shall be back on the scene looking for new fund raising opportunities and of course, available for work!! I will keep you all posted on my progress but in the mean time if you can think of any jobs I could do in the summer holidays then please call me on 01529 421041 and again thank-you so much for all your support! Jamie Gordon, High Street, Helpringham

New mid-week church service for young families?
About three years ago there used to be a mid-week Pram service at St Andrew' Helpringham. Having spoken to a few young mums recently, it seems there may be a need for it to be restarted. In the baptism service we pledge that with the help of God we will uphold the newly baptised on their spiritual journey and help them to take their place within the life and worship of Christ's church. Unfortunately the services on offer on a Sunday don't always appeal to families with young children. However, if we changed our regular monthly services too much it may put off the people who already come and enjoy those services. One way around this is to start something new and so we are keen to offer something mid-week like a Pram service for those with children of pre-school age. Such a service would be child friendly as well as appealing to adults who want something more informal, perhaps consisting of three songs, a Bible Story, some prayers including the Lord's Prayer and a short message. This could be preceded beforehand by refreshments such as tea and toast and a chance to chat or/and coffee & biscuits afterwards. The time I have in mind is 9am after the school drop off perhaps on a Monday or Thursday. If you think this is a good idea and would like to come, or perhaps think it should happen at a different time, please could you let me know by phone (460904) or email c.r.harrington@btinternet.com so we can get it started ASAP.

Electoral Roll
Every five years we now have to start a new electoral roll, this is nothing to do with the civic roll but is a list of people in the parish or who worship regularly at church who want to be able to have a say about the life of their local church. We are currently beginning a new roll, so if you want to be on it, or perhaps always have been on it in the past, you need to fill in a new electoral roll form which is available from Vince Stocking, 10 Ladbroke Close Helpringham (421395).

Church Wardens
Last month Marian Stocking (421395) and Gerry Newby (421767) were sworn in as the new church wardens of St Andrews Helpringham by the Bishop of Lincoln at a special service at Lincoln Cathedral. We wish them well in their new post and pass on our thanks to John West and Terry Markham for their years of service. We will be making a special presentation to thank John & Terry at our Strawberry Concert in church on Friday 5th July at 7.30pm. Do come and enjoy a good evening's entertainment.
My life through Music
On Friday 21st June 7.30pm at Great Hale there is a Desert Island Discs evening where in the first half the Rector, Rev 'Capt' Chris will be talking about his life and playing various records that have meant something to him. This will be followed by a light supper and then a concert in the second half by Chris and friends as they play some golden oldies by Rod Stewert Van Morrison The Eagles and others. Tickets are £5 from Ann Ireland at Great Hale (460418).

PETTICOAT CLUB NEWS
At our April meeting, the new committee under the chairmanship of Gill Grace was introduced to the members. Thanks were given to those who helped at the Cake stall at the Spring Fair and members were asked to consider which charity they would like to support this year at our annual coffee morning.

We were then treated to a very interesting talk by Maureen Sutton who has published two books on Lincolnshire Folklore. She told us all about Easter time Folklore. From the culinary delights to the old customs, both religious and secular we learnt of the variety of activities and traditions that have marked this season for centuries.

In May we were interested to learn all about the Cinnamon Trust and their work in re-homing and supporting the pets of the elderly and terminally ill. We saw a moving DVD which highlighted the great need that there is in this area, and were encouraged to learn that many care and nursing homes are now allowing pets to be with their owners acknowledging that Pets are therapy, thanks to the work of the Cinnamon Trust.
We were very grateful to Marian who is a Trust volunteer who had travelled from Oakham to give us this insight into the valuable work that is being done.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 12th June when Jennie Storr will give a talk “Travel with the Colonel”. Do come along and join us. There is always a warm welcome for new members and guests.

HELPRINGHAM AND DISTRICT GARDEN CLUB
In April
Andy Tasker from Beckfield Nurseries in Brant Broughton gave an informative talk on hanging baskets. No doubt the village will soon show the benefit of his hints and tips in the numerous baskets on display.

In May
This month's meeting on the 220d May will feature Harry Leach who will give us much worthwhile instruction on "Pruning"- Notebooks at the Ready and pencils sharpened!

Meetings start at 7.30.pm in the Memorial Hall
Visitors welcome at £2.00 per head per meeting.
Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided.

In June
This year's day trip will take place on Sunday, June 23rd when we will join in
Peter Beales' Annual Celebration of Roses Festival.

The Coach is fully booked but there's always the chance of a last minute cancellation so ring Marian or Rosemary to be sure. Any further information may be obtained from
Marian Molloy 421946 or Rosemary Bailey 421381

HELPRINGHAM HISTORY SOCIETY
The Society is busy this year building up its considerable archive of material of village history.
As has become the custom the Society will be putting on an exhibition in St Andrews Church over the Feast weekend of 10th-11th August. The theme this year will be “School Days” and we would appreciate any help you can give us. We are looking for photographs and school day memories from any of our residents, both those new to the village and those who were born here, which could be added to our display.
As we have sold out of copies of our Book on Helpringham published last year, we are now compiling a list of firm orders before we get any more printed. If you would like a copy (£8.50) or would like to give us information for the Feast Exhibition, please telephone Laraine on 421110 or Julie on 421265. We look forward to hearing from you.
