JAMIE GORDON’S EXPEDITION TO ECUADOR Just an update to let you all know how the Ecuador Event went, at Heckington Squash Club in May. I have never seen so many people there, so a huge thank you to all those who attended. And also many thanks for those who kindly donated raffle prizes, and with everyone’s efforts I raised nearly £800 including all the raffle tickets sold leading up to the event! So it was a massive success and again I can’t thank people enough. I have now finished my GCSEs and so the fund raising mission starts again! Any jobs you think I can do i.e. gardening, car washing, painting, let me know on 01529 421041 and I will gladly help out! I am also looking to organise a Bingo Night, so will let you know of any dates.  Thank you all for your time and your support, Jamie Gordon.

PETTICOAT CLUB NEWS

In June we were treated to an unexpected pleasure when, newcomer to the village John Pullen, stepped in to give us a talk on silver hall marks and collectables. John and his wife Jenny moved into Helpringham from Ancaster, just before Christmas last year. John has had an interest in Antiques and silver for many years, starting as a hobby it has been his full time occupation for the last four years.

We were given a very interesting talk with lots of illustrations and exhibits, and learnt the details of the marks to be found on silver, English Irish and Scottish.

To our great amusement a variety of silver mystery objects were laid out for us to identify. Mostly Victorian and Edwardian these ranged from a tongue scrapper with toothpick to a marrow extractor.
John proved to be very knowledgeable and informative and had us all rushing home to investigate our own silverware.

Our next meeting on July 10th will be learning about The Farm Shop at Heckington from Ros Loweth.

Do come along and join us. There is always a warm welcome for new members and guests.

Also visit our stand at the Open Day at the Memorial Hall on the 21st July to find out more about our Club.

HELPRINGHAM HISTORY SOCIETY
The Society is busy this year building up its considerable archive of material of village history.
As has become the custom the Society will be putting on an exhibition in St Andrews Church over the Feast weekend of 10th-11th August. The theme this year will be “School Days” and we would appreciate any help you can give us. We are looking for photographs and school day memories from any of our residents, both those new to the village and those who were born here, which could be added to our display.
As we have sold out of copies of our Book on Helpringham published last year, we are now compiling a list of firm orders before we get any more printed. If you would like a copy (£8.50) or would like to give us information for the Feast Exhibition, please telephone Laraine on 421110 or Julie on 421265. We look forward to hearing from you.
