MEMORIAL HALL NEWS
Hopefully you have all enjoyed your summer even if it was a little belated and short. Our various clubs and societies have continued and are still operating a full diary of events and always welcome new members. Please check and see if you would like to attend any of them. The Memorial Hall would welcome any new clubs or groups that would like to set up and use the excellent facilities there. Do get in touch.
The generosity of Helpringham is well known and we would like to thank you all for collecting the plastic bottle tops which have now helped to buy two wheel chairs for children. As there are no children on the waiting list at present we will continue to collect the bottle tops but they will go to the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance until another child needs a wheel chair. So please keep them coming. We are also still collecting used stamps for the Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

HELPRINGHAM POOR'S LAND CHARITY
The committee of HPLC will be conducting their annual review of eligible recipients for the Christmas payments at their meeting in early October.
In the past the committee has relied on their local knowledge of members to keep the list updated. This has sometimes resulted in eligible parishioners being missed off the list.
So if there are parishioners who think they meet the criteria and were not on the list in 2011 could you please let us know.
The criteria for inclusion on the list are: you have been a resident of the parish for 5 years or more and are eligible for the state retirement pension (only one payment per household). We require any additions before 1st October 2012.
My address is Bridgeway, 35 Highgate, Helpringham.

NEWS FROM THE PEWS byRev Chris Harrington   01529 460904
Then on Thursday evening 30th August at 7.30pm the Bishop of Lincoln is coming to rededicate the new roof at Asgarby at a service of Evening Praise. We hope the group choir will be able to join us and there will be refreshments afterwards.  Do come and support one of the smallest church communities in our group of parishes and have a look at the medieval wall paintings. However you spend your summer, take some time to smell the roses.

PETTICOAT CLUB NEWS
We took a step back in time at our last meeting when Laraine Wright gave us a fascinating insight into the production of the History Society’s first publication “Helpringham”.  It all started in 2007 when a small group of villagers met to discuss the possibility of gathering together suitable archive material to compile a history of the village.  Initial research found that significant historical events had simply passed Helpringham by and that the main points of interest were not events but people. With this in mind a decision was taken to focus on the development of the village through local eyes and, in 2010, with additional help and support the group became the Helpringham History Society and the task began in earnest. The printing of the first edition was funded by members themselves together with donations from others in the village and the first 100 copies sold fast. Another 100 copies have since been printed and these too have now been sold.  Apart from the publication itself the archive material collected has been exhibited in the village to mark special events to great effect. At the end of a very interesting and enjoyable evening there was an opportunity for us all to get involved by putting names to faces in photographs.
Our next meeting is at 7.30pm on Wednesday 12th September when Debbie Chessum will be coming along to tell us what it was like to be an Olympic Torch bearer. Do join us, we have a very varied programme and new members and guests are always welcome.

HELPRINGHAM AND DISTRICT GARDEN CLUB

HELPRINGHAM HISTORY SOCIETY
The Society would like to thank all those who helped us mount the "Sporting Helpringham" exhibition in St. Andrew's Church over the Feast Weekend. It was amazing to see how many people in Helpringham have had sporting success and we hope all those who attended found it enjoyable and interesting.
We are already planning the exhibition for next year's Feast "School Days" so please keep this in mind and look out your old school photos, artefacts and stories. This will include not just those educated in Helpringham but everyone. We ALL have school memories.
On Remembrance Sunday this year we will once again be remembering our war heroes at the Memorial Hall and would welcome any information or artefacts you may have to add to our already sizable collection, including all conflicts since the Second World War where our heroes have served and died.
The Society is now starting work on its next project "Buildings and People of Helpringham". To help with this we are seeking information on all buildings in the village and knowledge of previous ones. If you can help with this we would love to hear from you. Contact Laraine on 421110 or Julie on 421265 or any other Society members.
